Case IH MXU Maxxum replaced the Steyr-designed CS models and the British MX Maxxums in 2003. Production took place in Austria, but apart from a few minor details, the MXU was essentially New Holland’s TSA series, which itself was built in England. The engines were completely new NEF units (New Engine Family) conforming to the EU’s Stage IIIA emissions standard. In the four-cylinder models the displacement was 4.5 liters, and in the six-cylinder models 6.7 liters. All engines were turbocharged and charge-air-cooled, and featured a viscous fan. The MXU100 and MXU115 engines had a distributor-type pump. The engines in the other models were electronically controlled four-valve units with common-rail injection. These more advanced versions had an extra-power feature that could be engaged when sufficient power demand was detected at the PTO.
