Info

In 1989, the Antares 100 was introduced to the market, gradually replacing the Laser 90 and 100. The Antares 100 could have been named Explorer 100, as it was essentially a more powerful version of the Explorer. The engine was a 4.0-liter intercooled model introduced a couple of years earlier in the Explorer. The transmission was a 40+40 Syncro Power. Of the gears, 21+21 had speeds below 4 km/h. The 2-speed power shift was hydraulic.

Thanks to additional cylinders, the lifting capacity was 4760 kg. There were four standard driving speeds plus a power take-off. The external dimensions were the same as the Explorer’s, and the weight was 3610 kg (in Finland it was reported as 3490 kg), which was low relative to the power. For some reason, the turning radius was relatively large, larger than for example, the heavier Laser. The front differential lock was engaged by push button. The cab’s equipment level was modest and the noise level was 83 dB. In 1994, the Star-Jet 100 with a slanted hood was introduced, which had cab suspension as standard.

The Antares 100 was also sold in Germany through Eicher’s network in blue.

More closely related to the Lamborghini Formula than to the Antares 100 were the Antares 110 and 130, introduced in 1991. The Lamborghini-style design clearly differed from Same’s traditional angular style. The engine in these models was a 6.0-liter air-cooled unit. In the 130, the engine was turbocharged, and the 30% increase in torque clearly exceeded typical Same figures. The engine control was electronic. The transmission featured a 24+24 configuration with crawl gears. As an option (standard in Finland), a 2-speed power shift was available. These Antares models were equipped with an electric lift with a lifting capacity of 5700-6200 kg.

The cab was more refined than in the smaller models and the noise level was 79 dB. An optional SBA system (automatic control of four-wheel drive and differential locks based on speed, wheel steering angle, and use of the steering brakes) was offered. As was traditional, the front axle also had brakes.

There is considerable variation in the technical specifications of the Antares models. Here, internationally reported figures have primarily been used instead of those used in Finland. For example, lengths in Finland were reported without the drawbars.
