In the summer of 1995, the completely redesigned Deutz-Fahr Agrotron range was introduced, its rounded styling ahead of its time. The tractor was built from purchased components, so Deutz-Fahr’s contribution was largely limited to the cab and final assembly.
The Agrotrons featured KHD’s new liquid-cooled engines. In the three smaller six-cylinder models displacement was only 4.8 liters and in the larger ones 7.1 liters. Torque increased by 28–33% and rated power was available at 1900–2300 rpm. The engine oil change interval was 500 hours. Each cylinder had its own injection pump, similar to Samen’s design.
In Finland, the six-cylinder models came standard with a 4-speed hydraulic powershift. Direction changes were preselected with a switch next to the steering wheel and activated by the clutch pedal. The factory’s base Syncrosplit version used a 4-speed mechanical range gearbox. The transmission was a ZF 7200. In addition to the 24+8 option brought into Finland, there were also 18+6, 30+10, 20+20, 24+24, 36+36 and 40+40 gear versions. The driven front axle was also made by ZF. The Finnish six-cylinder Agrotrons featured automatic engagement of four-wheel drive and differential locks based on steering angle, speed and use of the steering brake. Hydraulic output on the six-cylinders was 83 liters per minute and lift capacity was at least 6,220 kg, rising to as much as 9,240 kg in the models imported to Finland. The lifting gear used only external lift cylinders. The base hydraulic model (L) lacked draft sensing; Finland received H-models and HD-models equipped with radar-based slip control and oscillation damping. The external hydraulics valves had a float position and flow control.
The cab, with its colorful knobs, was in a completely different world from its predecessors. Traditional German conservatism had been replaced by ideas from industrial designers. Visibility from the cab was excellent. The exhaust pipe and air intake were integrated into the cab’s corner pillars. Cab noise was rated at 74.5 dB, but tests measured levels of 76–79 dB.
